It’s a new month which means that February is officially over. I’m a little sad to see it go but am super excited to start a new month. Unfortunately, it was not a good reading month for me. I got into some what of a reading slump and did not do as much reading as I thought on my vacation. I did manage to read three books though. However, only one of them was on my original TBR for February. I know, I’m the worst!
On the bright side though, I did enjoy all of the books I read. So there’s that. On to what I read!
Illumine by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff (The Illuminae Files #1) – It feels like I read this ages ago as I finished it the first week of February. Ugh, there were so many things I loved about this book. The epicness, our main characters, the way it was told, and so much more. While not a perfect book, I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to read the sequel. You can check out my review here. (Rating: 4.5/5 Stars)
Daughter of Smoke & Bone by Laini Taylor (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) – I picked up this book randomly. It was available to borrow and I was in desperate need of an ebook to read on my phone. I had heard lots of good things about this series so I figured I would give it a go. HOLY SMOKES! I was blown away and surprised by how much I enjoyed it. Karou is just so cool and I loved reading her story. I also loved the structure of this book which I will delve more into in my review (coming soon!). Again, I cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel. (Rating: 4.5/5 Stars)
Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum – It has felt like a long time since I read a contemporary so I picked this book up. I’m a sucker for a mystery man and people bonding over email/instant messaging. I flew through this book and finished it in a day. It had me hooked as soon as I started reading it as I needed to know who starts emailing our main character Jesse. I thought this book was adorable and liked that it was not just about the romance. We got some female friendship, which I always like seeing, and family issues. A full review of this will also be coming soon. (Rating: 4/5 Stars)
Those are the books that I completed this month. If I had to pick a favorite of the month it’s a toss up between Illuminae and Daughter of Smoke & Bone. They were just such solid books.
I also started The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern and am having a tough time getting through it. I’m determined to finish it come March because I only have 100 pages left and am interested to see where it goes. Things seem to be actually happening, the first 2/3rds had a ton of world building and character development but the plot is weird. We’ll see if my opinion changes upon the end of the book.
March is a new month which means more reading. Would love to know how your month went and what books you finished. Leave a comment down below with the books you read.
