It’s no secret that I am a giant fangirl. I am a fan of many things across the whole book, music, tv, and movie world. I know I missed Tuesday by a day, but I could not resist talking about some of the things I’m a huge fan of. The Broke and the Bookish picked such a good topic this week.
I will admit I am definitely a bigger music and tv nerd than I am a book nerd. So I guess forgive me?
Christopher Nolan Films — Okay, so Christopher Nolan changed my life. His film Memento (2000) really opened my eyes to how cool filmmaking is and could be. I saw this film for the first time in 11th grade. A year later, Inception (2010) came out and I was blown away. It remains one of my favorite films of all time. Since then I have watched almost all of Nolan’s feature films. The only ones I haven’t seen are Insomnia (2002) and obviously Dunkirk (2017), which hasn’t come out yet. If he’s directed a film, it’s an instawatch for me regardless of genre.
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer — I still haven’t finished the 4th book, but I love this series so much. The characters are so amazing and I really love how each book focuses on a retelling of a fairy tale, but throws a littel sci-fi/fantasy in there. To think I was hesitant to pick Cinder up at first. I just bought copies of the entire series and see a reread in the near future. You know, so I can actually finish the series.
Shadowhunters/The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare — Okay, so it took me three separate tries to read City of Bones. The real love for this world actually started with Clockwork Angel. I picked it up not realizing it was the same world as City of Bones. Once I realized this, I was pleasantly surprised to see how much I enjoyed it. At this point I had yet to actually get through City of Bones. I absolutely adore The Infernal Devices series and it has made me fall in love with the world Cassandra Clare has created.
Musical Theatre Nerd/Renthead — I love musicals. They’re probably my first love. It’s hard not to love them living so close to NYC. My mom used to play Rent in our car all the time and I soon became obsessed with the music. I’m pretty sure I have the whole Broadway soundtrack memorized by heart. Then Wicked and Hairspray came out, and it only added to my love for musicals. I also got into theatre in high school which only fueled the obsession. Right now I’m on a Hamilton kick, because that score is genius. I’m also a big fan of Spring Awakening, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.
BTS (방탄소년단) — They have to make the list because I sort of traveled to South Korea to see their concert. I mean I didn’t travel there solely to see them. My best friend from college, Marley, teaches English there and I wanted to visit her. It killed two birds with one stone. Anyway, BTS is a kpop group that I’m in love with. Marley is also to blame for me getting into them as she is a kpop/khiphop expert and introduced me to them. I really enjoy their music. My favorite album is probably Danger and my bias is the Rap Mon. In case you were wondering…
State Champs — Okay, so you probably haven’t heard of this small band that I’m obsessed with. I have also traveled to see them. However, this time only to Pennsylvania and not another country. My inner soul likes to think it’s punk rock and that’s where the love for this band comes from. Their music is just so so good. If you’re into pop punk/rock I recommend definitely checking them out.
The 100 — Alright, this show has to be first on my TV list because I’m so obsessed with it. This was a Netflix find. I’m pretty sure I binged the first season in like a week. It was one of those shows that I couldn’t stop watching. It reminded me of The Walking Dead in the sense that no character was safe. However, this is a show that is way more brutal. My favorite part of the show, aside from the awesome characters, is the fact that it really shows the disconnect between the older and younger generations. This theme is consistent throughout the entire series and it’s so interesting to me. I really need to get caught up on the 4th season. I AM SO BEHIND! So no spoilers in the comments. I also need to read the book that it’s based on.
Arrested Development — This is probably my favorite comedy tv show. It is just so funny and I love the quirkiness of it. I also binged this series. It’s been so long and I need to rewatch this series. I don’t know how to capture my love for this series with words, I just am obsessed. I’m patiently waiting for Season 5, if it ever comes!
Teen Wolf — This is such a guilty pleasure, but I love it. I mean how can you deny the bromance that is Scott and Stiles? Plus werewolves are cool and I just love this show okay! My friend Mo and I used to go around talking about #TeenWolfMondays everywhere back when it aired on Mondays. I also have been a bad fan with this show as I am not caught up. So no spoilers about the final season. I’ve only seen the first few episodes. Mostly because Mo and I watch it together and we haven’t found the time.
Psych — This show was my everything when I was growing up. Shawn and Gus’s friendship was goals. My high school best friend Mo and I aspired to be like them for some odd reason. I was so sad when they took it off Netflix. Thankfully, I own a good chunk of the seasons on DVD. I think subconsciously this show also was one of the reasons I became a film major. It makes all of the references and I love it.
Alright, if you’ve made it this far. Thank you for listening to rant about things I’m a huge fan girl for. Some honorable mentions have to go to the Throne of Glass series, Fall Out Boy, and Running Man.
If you’re a fan of any of the things I’ve mention, let’s talk about it in the comments! Would love to know what fandoms you’re apart of too! Again, please no major spoilers in the comments. I am a little behind on things and you don’t want to ruin it for everyone else.
