Huge thanks to Heather at The Sassy Book Geek for tagging me to do this! This tag looks like a ton of fun and I can’t wait to get into it. So…let’s get right into it!
1. What was the last book you marked as “Read?”
Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
I’m glad you asked, because I literally just finished this book. It is the first book in the Mistborn Trilogy and HOLY CRAP IT WAS AMAZING! I was absolutely blown away it. Not only is this easily the best book that I’ve read this year, but it has become a new favorite. I’ve literally been recommending it to everyone, so if you haven’t read it you should definitely check it out! I will be posting a review soon, so expect that (hint: it’s getting 5 stars).
2. What was the last book you marked as TBR?
I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella
Sunday is my BookClub meeting and it’s my turn to pick the book. I was browsing some options, this being one of them, and saw that I had not officially added it to my TBR. This book is a Chick Lit novel that revolves around this woman who ends up with this guy’s phone. They start to talk and get to know each other through text messages and emails. Romance and hilarity ensue. I love a good romcom and I have yet to read a Sophie Kinsella book. This one looks like a ton of fun and I’m also a sucker for the virtual love trope. Since summer is officially here, I’m hoping to read it sooner rather than later.
3. What book do you plan to read next?
To be honest, I have no idea what I’m going to pick up next. I’m definitely a mood reader so I’m not sure what kind of mood I will be in after I finish A Thousand Acres by Jane Smiley (book club’s book of the month). I have a few ideas though. A part of me wants to jump right into the second book in the Mistborn series, The Well of Ascension. Another part of me wants to read some YA contemporary because it’s summer and I love YA contemporary. Also, if I can get a hold of a copy of City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare I might pick that up. I’ve been trying to finish this series for like ever and the timing has not been right. If you have any thoughts on what I should read next, definitely let me know in the comments.
4. Do you use the star rating system?
Yes, I find it’s easier then making up my own system. I definitely use decimals though and find that I usually give books between a 3 and a 4.5. A 2 star for me would be something that I didn’t enjoy reading, and a 1 star would be something I DNF’d, because I hated it or because I actually hated it. I rarely give those out. I also rarely give out 5 stars too. A book only gets 5 stars if I absolutely loved it and would 100% reread.
5. Are you doing the 2017 Reading Challenge?
Yes! My goal is 50 books and currently I’m at 22. Technically I am behind one book behind, but I am not worried though. It’s summer which means I want to read a bunch of contemporaries. I fly through those as opposed to the giant fantasy books I’ve been reading lately.
6. Do you have a wishlist?
I have a mental one, but not anything written down. I’m trying to acquire books that I really loved as opposed to random new ones. There are some that I just want though. One of those being Nevernight by Jay Kristoff.
7. Which book do you plan on buying next?
I’ve sort of put myself on a book buying ban. I literally have zero room on my bookshelf. I still have yet to find a place for all of the books I got at BookCon, so I really can’t buy anymore until I find some space and/or get a new bookshelf.
8. Do you have any favorite quotes? Share a few.
“One must always always be careful of books, and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.” — Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare
“Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in square holes, the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules, and they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or villify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things. They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones that do.” — Steve Jobs (not a book quote but I love it)
“You have not control: who lives, who dies, who tells your story.” — History Has Its Eyes On You, Hamilton by Lin Manuel Miranda (also not a book)
“Don’t put up this front that you’re happy ’cause I know you’re as sad as they come” — Break by Artist vs Poet (I like music okay?)
9. Who are your favorite authors?
Marissa Meyer, Ally Carter, Morgan Matson, Kasie West, and Cassandra Claire. All of these authors I will read any and every book by them.
I’m also going to tentatively add Brandon Sanderson because I really loved The Final Empire (if you couldn’t tell).
10. Have you joined any groups?
Yes. I’ve joined Addicted to YA, The Next Best Book Club, and ATB Book Club. I rarely go on them or interact. I mostly joined for book recommendations.
